How Has Yoga Changed my Life?
By Michelle Mandelman
February 2006
Yoga has brought new meaning into my life. It inspires, motivates and focuses me. Yoga continually encourages me to be open to seeing things in different ways. It helps me to start trusting myself when making decisions as well as teaching me how to be less attached to difficult issues in my life that I really can't change.
Yoga motivates me to continue trying to move forward in my life when I feel discouraged or disappointed with myself or with the people who are close to me.
Yoga teaches me to stay focused.
Yoga has opened up my life to having a spiritual awareness. The discussions we have in class have so much relevance to our lives and I have enjoyed integrating the different yogic philosophies into my everyday life. The practice has strengthened my body as well as my mind. I feel stronger in every aspect of my life, and that has enabled me to be more confident and independent.
Over the past six months I was caught speeding and received 2 tickets. Both times I was not in a rush to go anywhere but I seem to always be over the speed limit because I was not paying attention to what I was doing. Last week I was driving and realized that I was speeding again. I intentionally said to myself "be in the moment." That immediately pulled me back to driving. I know if it was not for my Yoga practice the practice of Awareness and Being in the Moment would not be in the forefront of my mind.
Finally, my Yoga practice has opened up doors to meeting some of the most wonderful people that I have ever met. I love my Yoga practice because it has such a positive effect on my life.
